DSGi Business has confirmed that managing director Jerry Roest is leaving the reseller after two years in charge.

Roest, whose last day is 14 November, will be replaced by acting chief operating officer Martin Dorchester.

Roest became interim managing director of DSGi Business – then known as PC World Business – in May 2006, following the departure of Derek Lloyd. He got the job on a permanent basis in October of the same year (Channelweb, 16 October, 2006).

In a statement, a DSGi representative said: “Jerry has made a significant contribution to the Group; and DSGi Business has made great progress under his leadership. He leaves it as a strong, efficient and unified business which continues to outperform the market.”

Roest’s departure comes two months after DSGi Business entered into a consultation period with around 50 staff (Channelweb, 28 August). This resulted in a number of high profile casualties, including the departure of DSGi group sales director Russell Flowers.

Channel sources indicated that Dorchester would take a more “hands on” approach than his predecessor and focus more on energising the reseller’s core product business than developing new services.

Bemusement and Amusement

I read with a sadness the story surrounding the turmoil at the former PCWB. I agree with the comments about Equanet from Mr Anonymous and although I think the merger of the 2 companies was done with the best intentions the Dixons mentality deos not understand the b2b market and agree that we will soon see the sale of Equanet/PCWB. To be clear I do not think the down fall of PCWB is anything to do with sales teams and the sales management as they have had some excellent staff over the years. The issues comes from the empire building in the back offices and as a result the company has forgot that they are a sales organisation and seem to be ruled by the back office functions, hence why there is no solid sales representation on the board. I read with amusement the comments for Mr C Dyke repudiating the claim the new board is "disposable", claiming the new board is "world class" as he is a memeber of the aforementioned disposable board!

The New Board

The bit I love is the fact that the people charged with developing the services strategy (ASG) are now all employed elsewhere... in the eyes of the new board how does that work?

DSGiB and the future

I enjoyed a very successful 12 years with DSGiB and met a great number of people whom I still keep in touch with. It is a shame what has happened over the recent months and I believe that Jerry has done the best he could but I can only see more turmoil ahead.

DSGi as a whole looks in danger of collapse with Best Buy looking ready to step in and take control.

I guess we will wait with anticipation to see what happens to DSG after the Christmas lull.

Not the Equanet I knew and loved

Dsgi purchased Equanet as disclosed in prior articles, this was the doom of Equanet's reputation and capabilities. Unfortunately DSGi tried to implement a failing retail/box shifting based system replacing Equanet's in-house developed system which gave Equanet the ability to tailored solutions to the old account base needs. This was not all, DSGi also then made the entire Logistics and IS redundant
(also disclosed in prior articles) ''This handful of employees'' as commented by DSGi are the Same handful that offered a range of bespoke services and was an absolute Unique Selling Point. DSGi Sub-Standard leadership decided that PC World Business configuration Dept were capable of this same service on Equanet's behalf.
It is not a surprise that cost saving exercises are now being made when..

Equanet's major account base not far from completely lost.
Equanet's reputation of services gone, now known as PCWorld Business new name.
Equanet's top staff have now moved on to pastures new/better.
I believe that DSGi need to remove themselves from the Business to Business market as they are clearly not good enough at it. I believe they will sell.

Disappointing

I'm very disappointed by some of the comments regarding a substandard board - it it my view that the newly installed board is 'World Class', and will take DSGi through these difficult times.

Good News !!

Martin Dorchester will use his vast experience & leadership skills to build on the excellent work done by Jerry Roest.
Good luck to both.
