Former Sphinx CST sales and marketing director Anita McCabe joins Acer this week as director of marketing, ending months of speculation about her plans.
McCabe, who was at Sphinx CST for nearly five years, will be responsible for a team of 10 with a brief to launch an aggressive branding campaign. She will also seek to increase Acer?s channel from its current line-up of 50 resellers to about 100 by the end of its fiscal year.
Channel sources suggested McCabe had been offered a number of positions before deciding on the Acer job. A source at Sphinx CST said the rumours were that she would join database vendor Oracle.
McCabe said she had been in discussions with several parties, but that ?the Acer job had the most aggressive brief, and it was prepared to put its money where its mouth was?.
McCabe will take on many of the roles fulfilled by two Acer staff poached by Compaq over the last month. Former marketing manager Nick Brown works at the vendor?s Munich operations as channel programme manager. Compaq has also recruited former Acer European channel manager Neil Marshall as small to medium business manager.
