Acton ditches 3Com over faulty modems

3Com/US Robotics has resolved a supply problem between Acton Computer Supplies and CHS Electronics after the manufacturer finally replaced an order of defective modems.

Acton Computer Supplies launched its original complaint on 17 September.

But it received no exchanges for the two faulty devices despite assurances of replacements and reimbursements from 3Com/USR. Acton finally decided to take legal action and spoke to its solicitors (PC Dealer, 26 November).

However, Acton confirmed last week that it had received two USR Carrier I fax modems sent from the 3Com/ USR Irish site on 24 November.

Max Martin, sales director at Acton, said: 'No legal action is going to be taken, but from now on Acton will use Dynalink modems as we do not want to sell 3Com/USR.

'We have a small account with CHS Electronics but we have been put off by 3Com. I don't know why we're selling a more expensive product anyway.'

Previously, Fiona Faulkner, general manager of 3Com's client access division, said 3Com had spoken to Acton and the matter was now resolved.

But Martin said: 'Neither I or Acton's managing director Alfredo Procaccini have never spoken to or heard of Fiona Faulkner. We will now buy mainly from Northamber.'

3Com/USR was unavailable for comment.
