Creative seeks court injunction against Cyrix

Multimedia manufacturer Creative Technology has obtained a temporary restraining order against Cyrix after suing the company for allegedly misleading customers.

Creative, which makes Sound Blaster audio systems, took Cyrix to court last month over claims that Cyrix? Media GX chip was Sound Blaster compatible, when, according to Creative, the systems are in fact missing a number of functions found in Creative?s products.

Creative also accused the chip manufacturer of violating its copyright through Web site distribution of certain Creative drivers and applets.

Under the court rulings, Cyrix can neither distribute Creative software over the Web, nor can it distribute Media GX chips and systems claiming to use Sound Blaster audio cards unless a card is included.

Court proceedings, which are being held in the Northern District of California, will continue later this month where Creative?s allegations regarding Cyrix?s false advertising and unfair competition will be heard.
