Mayo Helps Police with Distributor Enquiries

Police are investigating Manchester-based Mayo Trading after the dealership allegedly failed to pay distributors? bills of over #100,000.

According to Greater Manchester police, Mayo directors were taken in for questioning this month on charges of deception after eight distributors accused Mayo of failing to pay its bills. It is understood that one distributor is owed #60,000.

Detective Constable Simon Raistrick of Longsight police station in Manchester, who is in charge of the case, said: ?Inquiries into the company and directors are continuing. This is the type of case where the company does everything by fax, sells goods to generate a cash flow, takes more product, but eventually stops paying and then runs off with a big order.?

According to Raistrick, the police were alerted to the dealership in March. It was alleged that most of the trading which led to the complaints occurred in January and February.

One distributor, which had dealt with Mayo Trading, and did not wish to be named, claimed: ?We?re commencing legal proceedings against the company because it hasn?t paid its bills. We started trading with it around November last year. This is our standard procedure after bills have been left unpaid for 21 days.?

Mayo Trading was based at Norbrick House, 2a Brickhurst Road, Levenshulme, Manchester. The dealership specialised in trading in components and peripherals. The police have stated that these products were difficult to trace back to the place of purchase.

It is understood that Mayo ceased trading in March, according to Raistrick.

Mayo Trading was not available for comment when PC Dealer went to press.
