Psion to open up to MS OS possibilities

Psion may have to adopt Microsoft's handheld operating system despite signing a deal with Oracle in its effort to have its own mobile technology adopted as an industry standard.

Although the company has stated that its own OS will work perfectly well as an open industry standard, it has now said it cannot ignore Microsoft's impending CE product launch.

Psion is looking to recruit a new channel manager for the UK as the firm seeks to establish itself in the corporate arena.

A representative for the firm said: 'Psion has no plans to license the MS OS, but obviously we will have to keep our eye on it and see how it develops. We are looking to develop our partnership with Oracle and will be pushing our product more aggressively through its Vars.'

The firm recently supplied palmtops to Prudential staff and said it is confident it can make further in-roads into large corporations using big Vars.
