Double Dell for Taylor in the demise of the McCarthy era

Dell has fused the responsibility for its corporate systems integrators, independent software vendors and reseller channel under one umbrella, following the departure of its channel partner sales manager two weeks ago.

Since the exit of Mark McCarthy (PC Dealer, 19 November), the manufacturer has appointed Tim Taylor as sales manager for systems integrators and partners, to take on the responsibility of both aspects of the business. Taylor was formerly in charge of the systems integrators. He will now be in charge of Dell UK relations with companies such as EDS and Sema Group on the one hand, and resellers on the other, according to a Dell representative.

Prior to moving to Dell, Taylor was joint UK general manager at Mitsubishi Electric, where he worked for 16 years. He spent three years as marketing director of systems integration at Apricot, before the company became part of Mitsubishi.

One Dell reseller expressed hope that the appointment would reflect intentions by the vendor to continue to work with its indirect channel. 'Hopefully, this means Dell will remain keen to work with key resellers,' he said.

According to a Dell representative, the direct manufacturer has yet to find a replacement for Mike Newton, vice president for the UK and Ireland, who also left abruptly last month, the same time as McCarthy left the direct manufacturer. Newton joined Dell from Apple Computer in December 1996 as managing director of the corporate sales arm.
