Alcatel merges operations

Telco to join up Enterprise Networking divisions

Alcatel's Enterprise Networking division in the UK and Ireland is set to merge with the Nordic region as the telco rationalises its operations.

In addition, the position of UK director has been made redundant.

"We are bringing our business divisions in line with our areas," said Paul Ballinger, head of voice and data channel sales UK and Ireland at Alcatel. "And the position of the UK/Ireland director will be made redundant."

Ballinger said this move was no reflection on Richard Pitt's performance as UK director. "It makes no sense to have five people doing one person's job," he said. Ian Margeson, currently Alcatel's Asia/Pacific manager, will head the merged region.

But rationalisation always brings shortages. Paul Farn, sales manager at Alcatel Premier partner Powerdial Systems, said support from Alcatel has reduced over the past 12 to 18 months.

"We are multi-vendor, and this has enabled other vendors to increase what they sell through us," Farn said. "Alcatel has brought new resellers in but has not increased its manpower to support them."
