- Frontline has shaken up its board of directors after three senior management members left the distributor by mutual agreement. Hugh Baker-Smith, general manager of the components division, purchasing director Steve Foster and logistics director Guy Chamberlain all resigned on 14 April. The departures come one year after Frontline announced 29 redundancies, which included two directors in April 1996.
- Chip manufacturer Intel is expected to announce higher than usual price cuts for its products as it attempts to fight off competitors AMD and Cyrix. The price cuts could be as high as 30 per cent.
- The French Finance Ministry will sell off 18 million Groupe Bull shares over the next few weeks, reducing the state?s shareholding to 17 per cent from 30.5 per cent.
- Compaq has made a $280 million bid for remote access developer Microcom. The move is part of Compaq?s drive to acquire technology-rich firms, which began two years ago after it bought Networth and Thomas Conrad. Microcom chief executive Lew Bergins will remain to run the division.
- Intel CEO Andy Grove made $94.6 million last year by exercising stock options. According to filings, Grove exercised options to buy one million shares, paying $6.94 to $61.38.
- Mac distributor Computers Unlimited has been appointed by Sonic Systems as sole distributor for its Web server software.
