Electronique d2 makes moves on Mac monitor market

Scsi storage supplier Electronique d2 is moving into the monitors business to help develop its product range for the Mac market.

The diversification is part of a worldwide strategy to broaden into three business units consisting of colour management and multimedia, as well as Scsi storage. Scsi storage makes up 95 per cent of the company's UK sales.

Dominic Bruning, Electronique d2 UK sales manager, said: 'We bought US-based La Cie from Quantum which makes scanners, so it was a logical step to start selling monitors as part of our colour management product offerings. The monitors can also be sold into the PC market which we want to expand into.'

The first monitor in the range, the Electron 21, which is manufactured by Mitsubishi, features Diamondtron technology and is already shipping.

The vendor is also launching parallel Scsi versions of 1Gb Jaz drives and 540 MCD drives, following an OEM agreement with Iomega. The drives come with a parallel interface using d2's Shark technology, which is compatible with both parallel and enhanced parallel port technology.

Electronique d2 claims to be the world's largest value-added Scsi OEM manufacturer. Its UK arm contributed #16 million to the group's turnover of $128 million for the year ended June 1996.
