Pegasus angers channel partners

Financial software vendor Pegasus has admitted it sent letters to nearly 1000 users of its Senior Accounts and Payroll software urging them to change channel partners.

The letter, seen by Computer Reseller News, reached 890 users. It said support of the software would cease on 31 July next year and advised an upgrade to Pegasus Opera. As Accounts and Payroll resellers were not accredited on Opera, Pegasus offered contact information for an accredited rival.

Kevin Clegg, managing director of Pegasus partner Soft Options, said he learned of the mailshot when he received a fax from a customer.

"I am appalled that Pegasus would send a letter to my customers suggesting they contact another dealer without any communication with me," he said. "Our customers are aware of the situation and are happy to upgrade with us to Pegasus Capital Gold. They have no need for Opera."

Paul White, managing director at Pegasus, said: "I may be annoying non-Opera accredited partners with these letters but they are the minority. I can safely say that our key resellers are all very happy."

But a letter to John Capuano, Soft Options' general manager, from Andy West, Pegasus' sales director, said the mailing was a mistake and gave his deepest apologies to Clegg and his customers.
