Cisco hooks up with small fish
Firm unveils specialisation for SME-selling resellers
Cisco has announced a new specialisation for resellers that sell its security products to small businesses. The Security VPN/Firewall Express specialisation is the third to be adapted for Cisco's SME market.
"This is valuable training and recognition for our partners that have developed expertise in VPNs and firewalls for SMEs," said Vincent Bieri, EMEA business development manager for security at Cisco.
"The specialisation gives them more ability to compete against their own rivals in the market, more knowledge and more margin. There's an interesting market opportunity in SME."
John Crowe, director at healthcare VAR Stoneleigh, said: "One catch is that this undermines people with existing accreditations.
"Cisco's concept of enterprise is 2,500 users or more, and there's about 60 of those in the UK. Effectively, we're all fishing in the same pond. You might sell a huge router, but there will be hundreds of little routers around the edge of the network as well."
