Compaq to resell Tivoli
Storage and network management vendor Tivoli has announced that Compaq has entered an original equipment manufacturer agreement to resell most of its products.
Storage and network management vendor Tivoli has announced that Compaq has entered an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement to resell most of its products.
Unveiled at the US leg of its Planet Tivoli user conference last week, Tivoli also announced agreements with direct storage vendor EMC and application service provider 2ndWave.
The agreement with EMC will see the integration of Tivoli Storage Manager with EMC's Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and software including EMC TimeFinder. The partnership with 2ndWave will see Tivoli trying to hit the middle market with outsourced network, storage and help desk services through the web.
Building on the recent launch of its Sanergy software, Tivoli has announced Storage Manager 4.1 - an updated version of its software that enables users to offload large volumes data from a Lan. Other functionality includes: automated network back-up, tape resource sharing and rapid data recovery.
The partnership between Compaq and Tivoli will allow Compaq's service arm to sell, support and outsource Tivoli products and train more than 300 consultants in Compaq's Professional Services organisation on Tivoli products. In the UK, Compaq has already been talking to distributor Storm to resell Tivoli's Sanergy storage area network management software. Recently launched in the UK, Sanergy is currently exclusively distributed in the UK by Storm.
Before this announcement, Storm has already been talking to Compaq partners who have keen to resell the product, according to Rob Waite, Tivoli business manager at Storm.
Waite said: "Although Tivoli is talking to Compaq at an OEM level, on a regional and country level Storm is talking to its Compaq partners. "Sanergy is a huge opportunity for resellers. The good point of the product is that resellers are not getting involved in proprietary product. Therefore it doesn't matter whether a customer has EMC, IBM Compaq or Sun."
"Potential customers don't have to be existing Tivoli shops either, which is attracting resellers and Compaq because they use the product it their own environments and can sell it how ever they want to," he added.
