Q2 raises Data General's spirits
Data General continues to recuperate with profits of $6.3 million in Q2, compared with an $11.1 million loss for the same period last year.
The systems supplier's turnover rose from $283.8 million in Q2 1995 to $335.2 million for the three months to March 30.
President Ron Skates admitted that DG is cautious about the future as it is still moving from proprietary Risc-based hardware to Intel architecture.
But he said that the Intel-based Aviion server has contributed to the continued change in DG's fortunes.
UK general manager Jerry Crook said DG has coped well with a 16 per cent decline in the mid-range Unix market over the past year and praised the resellers that DG has recently recruited. 'We have recognised OEM and Var partner opportunities,' he said.
DG has also announced it will support SCO Unixware, joining fellow hardware suppliers Compaq, ICL, Intel, NCR and Unisys.
