Sun opens six-pack to show off Java

Sun Microsystems is to open six Java Centres in the UK, in conjunction with its channel partners, to show resellers how Java-based systems can be used in vertical markets.

The partners ? MDIS, ICL, Relay Business Systems, Oracle and Parallax ? will focus on different uses of Java within an overall system. The sixth centre will be at Sun?s headquarters.

Pete Deane, reseller partner development manager at Sun, said: ?There?s been a lot of talk about Java and we?re working with specific partners to show how Java solutions can be implemented in a real-world situation.? He emphasised that it would be an opportunity for Java developers to get experience and skills.

Relay Business Systems has set up a Java Centre to focus on systems integration within the health and education markets. The centre will allow customers to get hands-on experience of Java technology.

Richard Everitt, Relay marketing manager, said: ?People will be able to come along, touch the technology and see it working. The next stage they can go through is a proof of concept exercise. If they are happy with the solution we can provide it, through ourselves or a third party.?
