Equinix pours £26m into UK datacentre
Datacentre firm acquired UK-based Telecity for £2.6bn this year
Datacentre provider Equinix has poured £26m into its Slough datacentre as part of a wider expansion.
Equinix closed the £2.6bn acquisition of UK-based datacentre company Telecity earlier this year, and the firm will now invest £26m in the second phase of the expansion of its flagship datacentre, dubbed LD6.
The investment, which Equinix claims is a show of "continued commitment to the UK", will add 1,385 cabinets to the datacentre, raising the total to 2,770.
Equinix has 146 datacentres globally, including seven in London.
Russell Poole, UK managing director at Equinix, said: "As one of the most pivotal connection points in the world, London continues to play a significant role in facilitating the flow of data that supports the digital economy.
"With the completion of the second phase of LD6, Equinix will bring to market more opportunity for interconnection to connect companies to their customers, employees and partners and to ultimately accelerate their business performance."
Equinix's acquisition of Telecity brought in over 40 additional datacentres, doubling the firm's presence in Europe.
