McAfee brings isolation vendor Light Point in from the cold
New acquisition will be integrated into McAfee's MVISION platform
McAfee has acquired browser isolation vendor Light Point Security to tackle what it says is one of the most commonly used vulnerabilities.
Isolation works by opening web pages in a secure, cloud-based container, keeping content away from end-points.
McAfee said that it will integrate Light Point's offering into its cloud security platform MVISION.
Ash Kulkarni, chief product officer for McAfee's enterprise unit, said: "Web browsing is one of the most common threat vectors for end-points to get infected. Adding Light Point Security's capabilities into our products will create solutions that enable our customers to mitigate web-based threats without affecting user experience.
"We are constantly working to find ways to help our customers safely adopt the cloud so they enjoy increased productivity without experiencing heightened concerns about cyberattacks.
"Light Point Security's browser isolation capabilities will bolster the McAfee Unified Cloud Edge offering to make it a preferred solution for security-focused businesses without compromising on productivity."
Light Point was founded in 2010 by former NSA employees, and McAfee claims its solutions can protect against zero-day and ransomware attacks.
The vendor said it will also integrate the new tech into its web gateway.
Light Point CEO Zuly Gonzalez said: "We've been recognised for revolutionising the way that organisations think about security; now we will be joining a leading standalone cybersecurity player to be part of the next revolution.
"Together, we'll advance McAfee's mission to protect the world from cyberthreats while supporting customers as they accelerate their own businesses by removing limitations."
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
