Sysec wins Sport Wales IAM contract

Security VAR to implement identity and access management technology for public sector body

Sporting chance: Sysec's offering, based on Thales and ActivIdentity security, triumphed during a tender process

Security VAR Sysec has won a deal to supply identity and access management (IAM) technology to Sport Wales.

The Welsh organisation aims to promote physical activity and sporting excellence. Sysec will install IAM technology across four offices and two sports centres to allow 170 employees to access the corporate network remotely.

Sport Wales' ICT manager Simon Napper said: “Sport Wales aims to get every child in Wales hooked on sport for life, so our employees spend a lot of time working in local communities. As we also manage the allocation of lottery funding to sport in Wales, it is essential that our employees can quickly access information to update organisations on the status of funding bids.”

“The quickest way to do this is to ensure that they can access the IT resources they need from anywhere without compromising the security of our network or exposing confidential information to unauthorised users.”

Sysec was picked for the project after a tender process in which the Theale-based VAR put forward an offering based on vendor ActivIdentity's smartcard technology. The reseller will also use encryption processing and application protection technology from Thales Hardware Security.

Sysec claimed it will take a consultative approach to the installation, with the aim of ensuring that Sport Wales staff get up to speed on the technology. Sysec security consultant Andy Bryars claimed the project was a good example of a public sector body using technology to increase productivity.

"The solution that we are implementing for Sport Wales also includes the capability to manage physical access to facilities with photo ID incorporated into the smartcard and can enable proximity printing to simplify access to network printing facilities from any location," he added.
