Cygnia goes from zero to £5m in five years

Brummie security VAR eyes managed services expansion

Security VAR Cygnia has hit almost £5m turnover in just its fifth full year of trading.

The Oldbury-based Check Point partner, which claims to be trading profitably, saw turnover bounce by 56 per cent to £4.86m for the 12 months ending 31 December.

Managing director Jon Busfield, who was among the nucleus of ex-Netstore and Network SI staff who founded Cygnia in 2007, attributed the growth to the elbow grease expended by staff last year.

"It comes down to hard work," he said.

"We do not do anything particularly differently but we do things well – we have a 99 per cent renewal rate and hardly ever lose staff."

Cygnia draws the lion's share of its sales from Check Point, with ActivIdentity, Clearswift, Bloxx, RSA, Juniper and Varonis among its other vendor allies.

Last year, Cygnia moved into new digs and began offering managed services, an activity Busfield signalled would be expanded in 2013 working with Check Point and security information event management vendors such as LogRhythm and Juniper.

Busfield says Cygnia has inked contracts with a couple of 2e2's former customers following the integrator's demise. It plans to take on two sales heads and a consultant in the coming weeks.
