Datrontech said that it expects to post a loss for its first half year, citing the much publicised shortage of Intel chips as one of the main reasons behind the figures.

Alan Mack, Datrontech's chief operations officer, said: "Without the processors you can't sell the boxes."

Mack added that under new chief executive Ray Peck, the company would look to concentrate further on the high-end network and mobile computing markets, taking the lead of Dutch subsidiary ICP.

Meanwhile, broadline distributor Computer 2000 (C2000) said that it expects to sell its Compaq-Alpha business by the end of June.

Last week, Graeme Watt, C2000's regional managing director, had suggested that a deal would be completed by the end of May.

Watt declined to go into details about the sell-off, but said that any deal would be "tailor-made" for the prospective buyer. He also confirmed that, unlike Ingram's sell-off of its Unix division to German distributor Magirus, C2000 is only interested in to selling to a UK business.
