Intel assembles separate LanDesk firm

Intel has spun off its software products and services division, responsible for the development of its LanDesk desktop management software.

LanDesk Acquisition Corporation (LAC) will operate as an independent company. Channel players believe the move could see an overhaul of the product line-up.

Graham Ridgway, chief executive of UK integrator Touchpaper, said: "Although there are no immediate changes, we consider this a very good move longer term. The company is already talking about increasing and improving its reseller and integrator relationships across the world."

US venture capitalists Vector Capital and vSpring Capital have a majority share in the business. LAC will employ 150 people, including the present management team. The new managing director is Joe Wang, previously of antivirus firm Symantec.

"Our commitment to the LanDesk products, customers and channel partners remains a top priority. We plan to make the transition seamless for our customers and partners as we support and grow the LanDesk product line," said Wang.

The LanDesk Management Suite, LanDesk Client Manager, LanDesk Server Manager, LanDesk Asset Service, Instant Support Suite, Mobile Manager and Remote Services are all included in the deal.
