Parallels and HP offer one-for-all workstation
A single workstation with the ability to run multiple applications will allow VARs to target HPC firms
Virtualisation vendor Parallels has expanded its relationship with HP, so its VARs can target high-performance computing (HPC) organisations in need of a single workstation that can run multiple applications.
The solution combines the HP Z800 Workstation (based on the Intel Xeon 5500 series processor) with Parallels Workstation 4.0 Extreme and select NVIDIA SLI Multi-OS-enabled Quadro FX graphics cards.
Bryan Goode, vice president, business development and alliances at Parallels, said the oil and gas market, for example, previously had to run applications on two workstations and workflow between them was not easy.
"Extreme puts data graphics into a virtual machine so both applications can be run on a single workstation," he said.
"VARs can then add services around this offering so it can be delivered directly to specific vertical markets."
Wesley Shimanek, strategic marketing manager of technical computing at Intel, claimed: "This solution solves a problem that customers were having - resellers can go to them now and offer one workstation with high performance."
