Cisco launches range of self-defending products
Networking giant claims the products simplify an organisation's ability to control information
Cisco has bolstered its security portfolio with an avalanche of new products aimed at strengthening its self-defending network vision.
The networking giant has launched the Cisco Intrusion Prevention System, Cisco Security Agent, Cisco Security Mitigation Analysis and Response System, Cisco Security Manager and the Cisco Secure Socket Layer VPN.
According to the vendor, the products simplify an organisation’s ability to control and contain information security threats in a ‘more co-ordinated, flexible fashion’ while streamlining management and protecting remote users at the same time.
Mik Scully, vice-president of product management for Cisco’s security business, said: “We don’t usually launch so many products all in one go, but this is all part of a new initiative around threat control and a lot of it has been pre-empted by what the channel is seeing with their customers.
“It is a way for our partners to install some of our more advanced security technology alongside embedded technology. We have had a great deal of interest from resellers around threat control and containment.”
Scully added that the technology can be scaled up or down according to the size of the end-user and the firm is confident of enticing new customers to the Cisco fold.
“We can see that some of the management enhancements are going to bring us a wider range of customers, as well as improving existing customers’ security,” he said.
Ed Blake, head of e-security at VAR Real-Solutions, said: “We will definitely see demand for this technology. A more integrated approach is always better when dealing with the increasing number of multi-blended threats,” he said.
Blake said it was vital for a networking firm to have a strong security strategy. He added that there would be no shortage of demand.
“The fact that Cisco has such a large installed [customer] base means there is always going to be demand for its technology,” he said.
