Dell posts Q3 results

Direct vendor sees turnover and profit increase in Q3 but all could change pending an SEC investigation

Direct vendor Dell has achieved $14.4bn turnover for its preliminary third quarter results of fiscal year 2007, but the figures could be set to change after investigations.

Dell also achieved operating profit of $824m in the quarter. The results compare to turnover of $14.1bn and operating profit of $605m, for the second quarter of fiscal year 2007.

However the results are subject to change after investigation from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the company’s Audit Committee into certain accounting and financial reporting matters, including the possibility of misstatements in Dell's prior period financial reports.

The vendor said in a statement: "All financial results described, as well as the previously announced financial results for the second quarter, should be considered preliminary, and are subject to change. The company is not currently able to predict the extent or significance of any such changes, and those changes could materially affect the preliminary results reported herein, as well as the previously announced results for the second quarter.

"The company said that the actions it has taken to drive improved operating and financial performance long-term with a better balance of liquidity, profitability and growth are starting to take hold."
