Infonetics claims NAC 'worth a second look'

Market watcher belives end users are wrong not to adopt but resellers remain sceptical

Momentum is gathering behind the network access control (NAC) market again, with Infonetics Research becoming the latest analyst to sing the technology’s praises.

The market watcher has published a white paper arguing that the technology - which has so far failed to take off - is “worth a second look”.

Infonetics admitted that early solutions were judged to be more painful than the original problem.

But the latest generation of products are far more easily deployed and can gather more data, provide more information and fit more use cases, it said.

Infonetics principle analyst Jeff Wilson, said: “NAC has changed a lot in the last six years, and many companies are missing out on what NAC can do for them because they're thinking of 2003 NAC instead of 2009 NAC.”

However, Paul Prior, managing director of Foursys, said: “We are moving away from NAC. It has not been very productive for us over the last year as end users are primarily focusing on compliance issues and data leakage prevention.”
