Mimecast confirms exit of senior execs
Vendor claims "top-heavy" staffing structure prompted management cull
Email archiving vendor Mimecast has confirmed that several of the firm's senior executives have recently left the company in a staffing shake-up.
Senior vice presidents Mark Reeves and Jonathan Gale, and chief marketing officer Tim Pickard were made redundant in June following a "small staffing restructure".
Peter Bauer, chief executive of Mimecast, explained: "We had become too top heavy, had too many senior managers and needed to look at how we could become more efficient as a company."
According to Mimecast's full-year accounts, lodged with Companies House in March 2010, the vendor posted a loss of more than £8m despite its turnover doubling to more than £13m. It was recently ranked as EMEA's fifth-fastest growing private tech firm by Deloitte.
Pickard was the longest-serving of the three and joined Mimecast in July 2008 from rival vendor RSA Security. Reeves was appointed the following year to oversee the vendor's research and development activities in his role as senior vice president for EMEA.
Gale was the firm's most recent recruit, joining the firm in February 2010 to take the role of product management senior vice president.
Bauer said some of the trio's duties have been discontinued or, where appropriate, taken on by members of its middle-management teams. "These are people that have demonstrated an appetite to step up and take on more responsibility," he said.
He was also keen to stress that the departures would have had minimal impact on its channel activities.
Bauer added: "Their responsibilities and duties were not directly related to the channel, per se, but that's not intended to take anything away from the work they did for us."
