Griffith in Samsung hotseat as Song swans off

Vendor appoints Andrew Griffiths as new UK and Ireland managing director, as predecessor David Song takes up global role

Samsung has appointed a new UK and Ireland managing director as previous incumbent David Song takes on a global role.

Andrew Griffiths (pictured) will now head up the Samsung UK and Ireland team, which spans all three business groups: consumer electronics, mobile and IT.

He has more than 20 years' experience in the industry, including six years with Samsung and 10 at rival Sony.

David Song, the current managing director, will leave the UK and Ireland business to take on the role of head of global PC sales and marketing at Samsung’s PC business.

Song has been in the role since February 2010 and has overseen a number of high-profile projects and campaigns, including the launch of the Galaxy S II phone.

Other changes within the business include Robert King stepping up from his current role as sales director, consumer electronics at Samsung UK, to be head of consumer electronics.

The mobile business group in the UK will be renamed Telecommunications & Networks, as it will now include the Networks business. This will continue to be helmed by Simon Stanford.

Graham Long, vice president of IT at Samsung UK and Ireland, will continue to head up and manage the IT business including PC, Display and Print. He will also be responsible for managing Samsung’s B2B sales operation.
