Cashless society?

Some think physical money will disappear in the next 20 years. I say nooooooo!

Call me old fashioned but I actually LIKE using cash to pay for stuff.

So findings from a study by Skrill as part of its Future of Money Campaign, came as quite a surprise to me.

It claims that one in three Brits now carry less than a fiver in cash, and one in five are convinced that physical money will disappear over the next 20 years.

Less than a fiver? Really? That won't even buy a sandwich and a coffee in London these days.

Researchers found that cash is being replaced by more 'modern' payment methods such as credit or debit cards as well as digital wallets and mobile phone payments.

More shockingly, 13 per cent said they would be happy to give up cash today.

I need cash in my life. It helps me control my spending - which does have a tendency to get out of hand - as anyone who knows me will agree.

I have a habit of finding something I really like and then going out and buying as many different versions of it as I can.

My latest craze is Ukuleles. I now own three of them, but I'm hungry for more!

Using cash stops me from going completely spend crazy - once it runs out I do generally stop spending and try not to visit the nearest cash point. (well for a few hours anyway)

For people who need to be on a budget as well, cash is the best way of keeping control of their outgoings. Encouraging everyone to use plastic just increases recklessness, and isn't this why the economy is in such a mess in the first place?

I for one, hope this study is wrong and cash sticks around for a lot longer. It has been around for 3,000 years already, why kill it off now?
