Cabletron Systems has launched what it describes as the most advanced ATM switch to hit the market.
The MMAC-Plus Smart Cell Switch is a high-performance, carrier-class ATM switch providing up to 75.6Gbits per second capacity. It is part of a set of ATM products introduced by Cabletron, which said it aims to provide end-to-end ATM solutions for desktop-to-data centre connectivity.
The firm, which signed with networking distributor Data Translation Networking last month, also brought out the Smart Cell ZX-250 ATM switches, a group of cost-effective 2.5Gbits per second ATM switch solutions, and Secure Fast Smart Lan Services, a package of integrated, non-proprietary ATM capabilities.
Chris Oliver, Cabletron director of engineering and manufacturing, said the company had committed huge resources to providing the best available solution for enterprise and public network ATM requirements.
'We deliver highly scalable solutions designed to meet the infrastructure needs of our large-enterprise and public network customers,' he said.
'At the other end of the scale, we provide cost-effective, high-performance products for deploying ATM at workgroup and Lan backbone levels.'
The MMAC-Plus Smart Cell Switch has a distributed architecture and modular switching fabric with a capacity of 5.4Gbits per second to 75.6 Gbits per second. Fully configured, it provides up to 224 ports of ATM connectivity per chassis.
It comes with a set of configuration tools and all 14 modules are manageable as one switch with a single IP address.
