Veritas is on a realignment mission, telling CRN at its Las Vegas conference that it wishes to shed its industry reputation as simply a backup and recovery company.
Its Veritas Vision conference this week concentrated on its formation of an "enterprise management platform", a shift it hopes changes people's view of its offerings.
Shedding the backup tag is a familiar motif at the vendor's sales conferences following its split from Symantec.
"One of the biggest challenges we face is being recognised as more than the backup and recovery company," Peter Grimmond, head of technology for EMEA at Veritas told CRN.
Grimmond explained that he hoped the Veritas Vision conference will shift the firm's reputation as he feels "enterprise data management" is a fairer reflection of the vendor's offerings now.
"When we span out from Symantec [in February 2016], Bill Coleman [Veritas CEO] set out a strategy to deliver to an enterprise management platform," said Grimmond.
"This starts with data protection, moves onto information access and goes through to information insight and then onto the idea that you can monetise your information."
Grimmond said the vendor announced at Veritas Vision the various stages which create Coleman's vision of an enterprise management platform.
"We have had an explosion of new technology. In the last 20 months we have released seven new offers. Our engineering team is working flat out to produce new offerings," he said.
"I went to see a customer probably a year ago now, and they said 'yeah, Veritas, you used to build good products'! Our reputation was solid legacy technology, people relied on it, but they couldn't see themselves relying on it in three years' time.
"Our job has been to convince them that we are evolving our offers to support customers into the future, alongside building new offers which will support them even better in the future."
