Fresh research by CRN into the UK's top 250 resellers uncovers 36 firms who are making double-digit margins

If channel partners are being disaggregated by direct-selling vendors and the cloud, then this isn't reflected in CRN's inaugural analysis of the financial performance of the UK's Top 250 resellers.

For the first time, CRN has profiled the top 250 UK IT resellers, MSPs and consultancies by revenue, building on our Top VARs and Next 100 supplements.

The Top 250 rundown, and our financial analysis of their performance, are available only to subscribers of our new CRN Essential service. The top 200 can be viewed by all here.

According to the analysis, the Top 250 grew collective revenues by a whopping 13.7 per cent to £16.1bn in their latest financial years on record, far outstripping growth in the wider IT market.

Although a chunk of that was driven by blockbuster deals between some of the largest players, the vast majority of firms profiled - 176 to be precise - saw their revenues rise on an annual comparison.

The same could not be said of profits, however, as the spectre of Brexit appeared to knock the 250's collective bottom line.

Average operating profit margins across the 242 firms that disclosed the relevant figures for both years fell significantly.

That said, 36 firms made an operating profit margin in excess of 10 per cent. A breakdown of the top 25 most profitable firms, which include sizeable players such as ANS, can be found in the Top 250 analysis piece. Not one of these 25, however, turned over £100m.
