Career outline I have worked at Microsoft for nine years, eight of which were in the New Zealand subsidiary. I am responsible for the system builder channel as well as distribution, ISV, readiness and account management for all accounts in Microsoft’s SME and partners segment.

What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? The ability to create and develop a high performing team.

What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? 3G.

W hat will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Biometrics.

Which technology would you most like to have invented? Laptop batteries that stay charged and work for one week.

Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? No.

If you could swap places with anyone in the industry, who would it be? I would enjoy the challenge of a pan-EMEA role. This would give me a greater awareness and exposure to international business issues.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Trying to sustain a rate of progression in a company in a small subsidiary. Unfortunately your knowledge, skills and experience can grow faster than the company.

What is the biggest success of your career? Leaving behind a team that grew and developed under my leadership, mentoring and guidance.

What piece of technology could you not live without? Home wireless network and server.

What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Don’t be constrained by trying roles that are outside your comfort zone.
