Career outline: I started in IT at the age of 17, started my own business at 22 and have been in business for more than 10 years. I floated ANS on Plus Markets in 2000 and recently completed the acquisition of BIOS.

What motivates you every morning to get up and work in the channel? The variety, the energy and the people.

What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years? Open source.

What will be the most underrated technology in the next five years? Identity management solutions.

Which technology would you most like to have invented? Google.

Do you have any regrets from your time in the industry? No.

If you could swap places with anyone in the industry, who would it be? I am happy where I am, I would rather be there on merit than swap places with anyone.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced in your career? Raising the finance to enable the company to grow.

What is the biggest success of your career? Recruiting a management team to enable me to take a step back from the operational side of the business and look at acquisitions and other opportunities.

What piece of technology could you not live without? My mobile phone.

What would be your advice to anyone starting a career in IT? Don’t go to university, get relevant knowledge as quickly as possible and try and keep up.

What would you like for Christmas if you could have anything? A lear jet.
