Micro-P confirms talks with Lenovo

Partnership will focus solely on vendor's nascent server range

Lenovo and Micro-P are finalising terms on a partnership

Micro-Peripherals (Micro-P) has confirmed long-standing rumours that it will begin working with Lenovo around its nascent server offering.

The distributor will begin shipping the Chinese PC giant’s ThinkServer line-up “within a month” and is currently finalising contract terms.

Mark Kahr, vendor and marketing director at Micro-P, said he was keen to add a second server vendor to the company's portfolio beside Fujitsu and that Lenovo was the obvious choice.

“It was very difficult to find a server manufacturer that uses the channel,” he told CRN.

Lenovo only entered the server space last Autumn with its ThinkServer range. Based on a licensing agreement signed with IBM at the beginning of 2008, the offering is aimed at firms with one to 500 heads.

But insiders claim UK sales have so far been muted.

“When the launch kicks off, it will focus on servers,” Kahr added. “We are not looking to have access to Lenovo’s notebooks and desktops.”

Lenovo had not provided comment at the time of publication.
