Overland branches out into business continuity

The vendor is throwing itself into a new market head-on and is planning a VAR recruitment drive

Kelly: There is a lot of vendor consolidation among VARs at the moment

Data protection vendor Overland Storage aims to ruffle feathers in the business continuity market, with the release of its REO Business Continuity Appliance (BCA).

Throwing itself into a new market space, the vendor will come up against the likes of DoubleTake Software and FalconStor.

David Spate, Overland Storage sales and marketing director of disk solutions EMEA, said: “There will be a VAR recruitment drive this quarter around the new product, aiming for between five and 10 technology-savvy VARs. A distributor will be appointed in the near future.”

The REO BCA uses Overland’s REO Series disk-based backup and recovery virtual tape library (VTL) to integrate a single appliance with a streamlined approach for both continuous local backup and remote disaster recovery.

Eric Kelly, chief executive of Overland Storage, said: “There is a lot of vendor consolidation among VARs at the moment, so the vendors that are left have to expand their product lines to keep partner interest.”

Paul Hickingbotham, solutions manager at Overland partner Hammer, said: “The BCA product portfolio is timed very well to meet market demands.”
