Kendata breaks the code
Southampton-based Kendata Peripherals is aiming to make an impact on the document imaging market with its Axxis system. It uses a bar code method of entry rather than traditional keyboard entry. Axxis performs automatic content indexing of every significant word in a document using OCR technology. The OCR processing is automatically distributed around the network in order to take advantage of the processing potential of idle workstations. Kendata claims that the system's TIFF GP4 compression allows it to search millions of documents in just a few seconds. It supports a range of storage devices including RAID, optical drives and CD-ROM jukeboxes. Axxis can be used on any system capable of running Windows 3.1.
