Vtechsoft launches its range of kids' stuff

Vtech, the UK's third largest toy supplier, is launching a range of children's edutainment CD-ROMs through its new interactive arm, Vtechsoft.

The first title, Alphabet Workshop, is released this week and will be joined in August by two more Workshop titles, Numbers and Colours & Shapes.

All of these titles are aimed at three to six year-olds and will carry an RRP of u29.99 each.

Vtech has established itself as a supplier of dedicated electronic learning toys and children's PC add-ons, such as keyboards. Tony Cornock, Vtechsoft sales and marketing manager, said the titles will sell through bookshops which stock CD-ROMs and electrical stores like Comet, as well as through toyshops like Toys R Us with which Vtech already has a relationship.

Distribution will be handled by Gem, Ingram Micro, Interactive Ideas, THE, CD-ROM Distribution and Computer Bookshops.

Publicity to back the launch centres on an insert campaign in consumer magazines totalling about 250,000 in circulation. An A2-size counter stand with built-in leaflet dispenser is also available for instore use.

The Workshop titles will run on the large installed base of 386 and 486 PCs as well as Pentium machines.
