Zycko slams the lack of green skills in channel

Distributor hits out as research reveals that IT managers rely on suppliers for green information

Emission mission: Zycko claims end users need more guidance on carbon reduction strategies.

Distributor Zycko has hit out at the lack of green consultancy skills in the channel after its research suggested end users need more guidance on carbon reduction strategies.

Nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of the 100 IT managers questioned listed lack of knowledge as the main barrier to becoming more green. The research was carried out by analyst Vanson Bourne.

The respondents, all of whom worked for large UK enterprises, were keen to push on with an environmental strategy. A total of 42 per cent claimed they plan to reduce their carbon footprint this year.

And two in five (39 per cent) of the IT managers said they rely on their suppliers for information on environmental issues.
However, David Galton-Fenzi, group sales director at Zycko, said most resellers are ill-equipped to provide advice on an end-to-end green datacentre strategy.

“I only know of about five integrators that are capable of delivering this,” he said.
Greg Carlow, managing director of datacentre integrator Repton, was sceptical of Zycko’s claims.

“We have a whole area of focus on green matters,” he said. “We work with four other companies to extend the whole energy extension issue outside the datacentre.”
