Financial software vendor Adaptive Accounting has launched an attack on rival Pegasus by offering a cut-price deal aimed specifically at Pegasus resellers.
Adaptive, which produces Accounting Office, is shaving more than £1000 off the price of its software package for a limited period. Nigel Reading, head of sales and marketing at Adaptive, admitted that the move was a direct attempt to take business away from its rivals.
"This offer will allow Pegasus resellers to become authorised to resell Accounting Office into both horizontal and vertical markets," he said, adding that Adaptive hopes to recruit at least 100 resellers in the next 12 months.
In addition to the cut-price software, new partners will be entitled to a full day of on-site training, a five-user Accounting Office in-house licence, and a full year's technical and product support for the licence. They will also receive a £100 support pack and have their own page in the partner section of Adaptive's website.
Reading said that Adaptive's software package is being backed by Microsoft, and is included in its Visual Basic for Applications programme. This offers "seamless integration with other programs and applications, such as budget control and cashflow forecasting".
Adaptive has already signed up more than 70 resellers since its launch, Reading added, claiming that its software package is more flexible than those offered by Sage and Pegasus, and is enough to rival the Navision and Square accounting packages. "We are offering resellers a valuable alternative," he said.
However, Paul White, managing director of Pegasus, is not overly concerned. "We are well aware of Adaptive," he said. "It is one of hundreds of vendors seeking to secure a piece of the market. But we think that Pegasus has a strong brand and channel."
He added that the launch of accounting software package Opera 2 has given the company a strong position in the marketplace. "Pegasus is not complacent, but it is confident in its ability to deliver value to its customers," he said.
