Workstation makes notebooks for tough guys

Some notebook users demand a little more than the average. Some want to take their portable not just on the road, but off the road and into the field. Workstation Source has introduced two rugged Pentium notebooks built for tough environments. They have built-in multimedia capabilities, and are being aimed at applications like remote communications, the military, construction as well as transportation.

The Getac-L has built-in shock absorption, with the option of additional shock mounting to cope with high humidity and temperature. It weighs 3.2Kg, and has RAM from 8Mb to 64Mb. The Getac I/IX is made for even more rugged environments. Both are expandable through a series of removeable module bays and internal cards. Their display is an 11.3in active matrix TFT SVGA colour LCD with a resolution of 800x600 and 64K of colours. An 85-key drip proof membrane keyboard is provided. End user prices are approximately u3,750.
