Adaptec declares itself "back on track"
Storage vendor hails acquisition for giving it the tools needed to fend off competitors
Beleaguered storage vendor Adaptec claims its acquisition by PMC Sierra earlier this year has put the firm "back on track".
This time last year, the vendor was blighted by tumbling revenues and was left reeling by the departure of several members of its executive team.
Shortly afterwards, the firm's brand name, channel operations and RAID technology line were sold off to semi-conductor vendor PMC-Sierra.
The vendor recently launched its first products, a family of 6Gb/s RAID controllers, since the completion of the buyout six months ago.
Jared Peters, vice president of PMC-Sierra's channel storage division, said: "Since the acquisition in June, we have been focused on [using] PMC-Sierra's technology to bring a 6GB/s SAS controller to the channel."
Peters said the product and the timing of its launch has put the firm back in a position to compete against its storage rivals.
He said: "The aim of the acquisition was to link up with PMC-Sierra, get a product out that is in a sweet spot of the market and show everyone Adaptec is back on track.
"By launching our products now, we feel that we are in the right place at the right time with the right technology as the demand for 6Gb/s products is really starting to build," he added.
