UK IT decision makers are blasé about cloud

CRN study of more than 500 technology chiefs reveals some surprising results

UK IT decision makers are unconcerned by the move towards cloud and the consumerisation of IT, a CRN study of more than 500 technology chiefs has found.

As part of our Top VAR s project, which launches on Monday, we quizzed IT managers and C-level executives at end users ranging from micro-businesses to the largest of enterprises.

We asked them to rate the importance of a variety of issues on a scale of one to five, one being not important at all, and five being very important. Just 3.5 per cent of respondents gave the consumerisation of IT a rating of five, with a further 16 per cent giving the issue a rating of four.

About a third rated this issue in the middle of the importance scale, with 28.5 per cent giving it a score of two, and 18.4 per cent giving it a one, the lowest rating possible.

The move towards cloud scored similarly lowly, with little more than 10 per cent placing this issue at the top of the importance scale. About 20 per cent gave the rise of cloud a rating of four, with just over a quarter settling on a rating of three.

Some 20.5 per cent gave the move towards cloud a two rating, with 22.9 per cent indicating the issue is of no importance at all.

Look out for the full report of our research on Monday, as well as our rundown of the UK’s 100 biggest VARs.

We believe no one has ever documented the make-up of the UK channel, and the issues facing resellers today, in such depth.
