Projector stocks are down but more will come, says LG

Vendor vows commitment to category despite components issue

LG has confirmed it is temporarily suspending its range of projectors, following issues with component supply from the Far East.

Mark Weston, UK and Ireland distribution channel sales manager at LG, denied a rumour that the Korean vendor might be pulling out of the projector market.

"We are not officially pulling out," Weston said. "But we have a six-month gap. We expect to have more stock in September."

Lenses made in China had not been supplied in sufficient quantity to sustain inventory, which was already low in the channel, Weston said. However, he could not give specific details of the supply problem at press time.

The models affected include the BX254, BX274, BX286, BX501B, HX300G and HS200. The high-end 3D projectors are still plentiful but generally not suitable alternatives for the general-business desktop or meeting-room kit, Weston said.

"We have enough to cover back orders," he added. "But there is no way we could have predicted this."

Weston said LG is endeavouring to solve the issue as soon as possible and keep all its partners up to date on the shortage issue.

"The new product line-up will be available in September," he said.

Distributors contacted by ChannelWeb had not indicated any inventory problems with LG projectors at press time.
