Garland clinches Telegraph live video deal
Specialist distributor develops and deploys video offering for major news media outlet
Warwickshire audiovisual distributor Garland Partners has scored a deal to help the Telegraph media group expand its live online coverage.
Malcolm Harland, director of Garland Partners, said the project involves the deployment of backpack devices that enable video to be filmed and then streamed via the newspaper's network.
"These are the same devices that were used so successfully by over 40 media outlets this summer to provide unique and immediate coverage of the London 2012 Olympics. They truly are the devices that are changing the face of media," Harland said in a press announcement.
Reporters can create video content while on location and transmit the feed via 3G directly to the Telegraph studio, wearing LiveU 70 backpacks. This enables them to get breaking news out faster.
The footage can then be broadcast online, or directly to mobile devices. Garland also helped build the live video stream workflow as well as installed and commissioned the equipment.
James Weeks, head of video at the Telegraph Media Group, said in the Garland announcement that consumers now expect quality video content when consuming media.
"Now we can follow developing stories like never before. The changes we have made to our studio will enable us to augment live video with expert analysis and informed opinion," Weeks said.
The newspaper can also take live feeds from the Associated Press's media hub service and incorporate that into its own content, pushing it to the streaming encoder for delivery.
