Partner Content: Business continuity - (Workspace)ONE less thing to worry about
When you see a photo of people celebrating their ability to connect via Zoom or Teams, what do you think? "Bet they wish they'd switched off their webcam / blurred their background"? For me, it's "I wonder how their IT team is feeling"?
IT professionals are working crazy hours to ensure business continuity. Platforms originally created for a handful of casual remote workers now have to support entire workforces who want the full experience without jumping through security or connectivity hoops.
Stay home, stay safe?
As you would expect, cyber criminals are having a field day - attempting to attack individuals and organisations under a range of new phishing campaigns. So how do businesses make sure they grant mass remote access without compromising security?
Simple, speedy, secure
It's at this time VMware Workspace ONE shows its strength - providing the ability to simply and securely deliver and manage any app on any device. It does this by integrating access control, application management and multi-platform endpoint management into a single platform. And, because Workspace ONE is available as a cloud service or on-premises deployment, it suits all infrastructure types.
A new Horizon with VMware
With business continuity at risk, speed is of the essence. Thankfully VMware has released their latest version of Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure which includes support for Microsoft Windows Virtual Desktop. This is a big shift forward - it makes working on Windows in the virtual environment much smoother. If you, or your customers, want to try it, check out the free trial (no installation required) here.
Compelled to take the long term view
A major challenge we're all experiencing is providing an immediate response and taking a long-term view. And the long-term view is this: existing business practices and culture need to be reviewed if we're to cope with an event like this again. It's not unrealistic to expect a future of fewer office workers and less business travel based on what we learn during the coming weeks.
Having the endpoint in mind
VMware's acquisition of Carbon Black gives organisations a broader security position. Where the acquisition of AppDefense strengthened security within the hypervisor, Carbon Black adds industry-leading endpoint protection. For customers, it provides the power to deploy remote working faster by supporting combined BYOD and Corporately Owned, Personally Enabled (COPE) strategies. In a situation where employees will need to use corporate devices for personal tasks, it's reassuring for IT teams to know they can protect data from being downloaded or shared via messaging apps.
Managing a mixed bag
Laptops have now joined the list of items stockpiled or stripped from shelves which means that organisations may have to mix their estate. Because Workspace ONE + Carbon Black is device and O/S agnostic it works across Windows, Apple and Android. This means that the user experience is fast and secure, and the IT experience is one of confidence.
What's the partner play?
Partners value Workspace ONE for its ability to offer choice and flexibility to customers:
- Supports numerous business continuity scenarios (i.e. using Horizon's virtual desktop capabilities to turn low spec laptops into dumb terminals; issuing staff with devices based on hardware availability; BYOD; COPE)
- A valuable offering for customers that need to support both Apple and Android devices
- Pricing options that work across numerous categories:
- Per-device for where staff share devices (i.e. supply chain)
- Per-user where staff have multiple devices (i.e. professional services)
- Intelligence based security that combines prevention and automated detection to defend against today's advanced cyber attacks
- Smart Groups functionality that allows IT to set role-based policies for apps
