Datalogic appoints Mercom as Accredited Repair Centre

Data capture vendor captures hardware maintenance firm

Data capture vendor Datalogic has appointed IT hardware maintenance company Mercom as an Accredited Repair Centre for its full range of barcode scanners, mobile and vehicle mounted computers and hand-held terminals.

As a result, Mercom will provide Datalogic’s resellers with a number of services, including fixed price repair, extended warranty, hot-swap advanced exchange and an enhanced warranty, with either a two-day or five-day turnaround from receipt of the product.

Paul Duggan, managing director of Datalogic UK, told CRN: “Datalogic wanted to offer a repair service at a fixed price. To do this, we needed to find a repair centre that was large enough to meet our requirements. With more than 120 full-time engineers, Mercom is one of the UK’s largest IT repair centres and it has a good reputation, making it the perfect fit for Datalogic.”

Datalogic claimed the services will provide its resellers with a differentiator from its competitors, “many of which suffer with very long turnaround times on repairs”.

“The appointment of Mercom gives our resellers better choice, better flexibility and more independence,” Duggan added.

Mike Pullon, managing director of Datalogic distributor Varlink, said: “Previously, a number of Datalogic resellers became Authorised Repair Centres, which caused a bit of conflict among Datalogic’s partners.

“The appointment of Mercom makes sense as it won’t sell Datalogic products: it will only do the repairs, so it will not be competing with Datalogic’s resellers.”
