IPT gains VistaInsight

InfoVista launches tool for Cisco systems

InfoVista has launched a performance monitoring and management tool for Cisco's IP telephony systems.

Later versions of VistaInsight for IP telephony (IPT) will support Nortel and Avaya platforms, the firm said.

Bruno Zerbib, director of product management, network solutions at InfoVista, said: "In 2001 and 2002, the first waves of [IPT] deployments failed miserably. A lot of people looked at the benefits of services pitched to them and took reliability for granted."

Zerbib estimated that two-thirds of the early roll-outs that failed did so because of poor planning. Smaller companies have had more success, partly because their infrastructure is much simpler, he added.

"If InfoVista adds more vendors, that's very positive," said Rachel Power, an analyst at Canalys. "But starting with Cisco is sensible because of its importance in pure IPT."

InfoVista will sell VistaInsight for IPT through its roster of large system integrators. Its channel includes Dimension Data, Accenture, Nexteira One and Omnetica.
