SAM duo merge for market clarity
The Federation Against Software Theft and Investors in Software team up to combat piracy
UK software bodies The Federation Against Software Theft (The Federation) and Investors in Software (IiS) have joined forces in an attempt to bring more clarity to the software asset management (SAM) space.
As one entity, the dual-branded FAST IiS aims to promote best practice for SAM for its end-user community and 145 members.
The Federation will focus on lobbying and software IP protection, while IiS will promote best practice and consistent standards in SAM.
John Lovelock, chief executive of The Federation, said members would benefit from the exercise. “Previously, vendors were competing for attention. We are stronger as one force as there will be SAM consistency.
“We will be instrumental in creating an industry-recognised qualification and set methodology for SAM practitioners.”
Michala Wardell, UK head of anti-piracy at Microsoft, welcomed the merger. “This is good news for the SAM industry. The new body can play a pivotal role in defining what customers want from partners.”
