F5 hits the right note with Crescendo buy

Vendor grabs the intellectual property assets of application delivery networking rival for undisclosed sum

F5 Networks has strengthened its application delivery networking (ADN) offering by snapping up the intellectual property (IP) assets of Crescendo Networks.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will see F5 bolster its own ADN portfolio as a result. Crescendo, founded in 2002, is currently in liquidation proceedings.

It is understood that Crescendo’s core development team has already joined F5 and is working at its Tel Aviv office.

Dan Matte, senior vice president of marketing and business development at F5, said: “We welcome members of Crescendo’s engineering team to F5 and look forward to enhancing our industry-leading ADN solutions with their technology. In particular, Crescendo’s intellectual property and technical expertise provide compelling layer-7 capabilities for hardware and security solutions.

“With this acquisition, F5 will further strengthen its products’ ability to address both the continuing exponential growth of internet traffic and the rising number of sophisticated security threats affecting applications.”

The firm claimed the acquisition of Crescendo’s IP assets will not have a "material impact" on F5’s quarterly financial results, due in October.
