Cisco: Partners to cash in on OpenDNS buy
Recurring revenue boom on the way for the channel, Cisco claims
Cisco has talked up the benefits its latest acquisition will bring to partners, claiming OpenDNS will help them milk the recurring revenue model and expand their security practices.
OpenDNS is a San Francisco-based security firm that focuses on advanced threat protection for any devices, delivered via a SaaS model. It was acquired by Cisco in June.
The deal officially closed this week, marking the beginning of the integration between the two, which Cisco said will be a boost for its partners.
As of yesterday, OpenDNS' Umbrella tech platform was integrated into Cisco's AMP Threat Grid offering, and similar moves will be announced in the coming quarters.
On a partner blog, Cisco said this move is good news for the channel.
"The OpenDNS acquisition is well aligned to Cisco's goal of developing innovative security offerings and accelerating sales for partners," the firm said. "By offering OpenDNS, partners will gain recurring revenue streams that are quick and simple to deliver and accelerate time to value for customers as part of their defence architecture or incident response strategies."
The firm added that the availability of OpenDNS will allow partners to expand their security practices, meaning they can better target enterprise, commercial, public sector and SMB customers.
"[Partners can] provide customers with advanced threat protection and detection capabilities across the full attack continuum – before, during, and after an attack," said Cisco.
